Press Statement on Israel Attack by KeADILan Deputy President

PRESS STATEMENT
29 December 2008

Israel's barbaric air raid on Gaza on the eve of the Muslim new year underlines yet again the nature of the Zionist state which continues to show its pretentious commitment at negotiation tables, at the same time indulging in an orgy of killings and destructions.

State terrorism remains Israel's favourite policy and it will continue for as long as the international community, particularly Israel's Western allies, show no qualms of endorsing and supporting its cowardly acts on innocent civilians.

Let us remember that the massacre comes a few days before president-elect Barrack Obama takes over from George Bush, whose administration and policy have exacerbated the situation in the Middle East and encouraged the Israeli Defence Force into committing more crimes against humanity. One suspects that this is an attempt by Tel Aviv to test how strong an ally is the new US administration, which has been hailed by many -- rightly or wrongly -- as a welcome change after a long period of hawkish US military adventurism.

Parti Keadilan Rakyat, while joining people around the world in condemning this latest act of state terrorism, urges governments to do the same and show solidarity with the suffering Palestinian people.

Parti Keadilan Rakyat also calls on all Malaysian political parties to support a motion in Parliament condemning the latest killings to show the country's unified stance against state terrorism and illegal occupation. It is unfortunate that the deputy speaker of the Parliament denied such a motion on November 26, saying it was 'not urgent', despite getting the support of both sides of the Dewan Rakyat.

It has become a routine for the Zionist to display their obscene military might during every important celebration. This time, it happened just after Christmas, when Muslims observe the first day of the year 1430 of the Islamic calendar and the beginning of Muharram, one of the four sacred months in Islam.

On this occasion, we urge Malaysians to pray for all the oppressed peoples of the world and hope there will be more careful and informed decisions on the part of powerful leaders, so that sanity and humanity can return to the Occupied Territories.

Dr Syed Husin Ali
Deputy President
Parti Keadilan Rakyat
(People's Justice Party)
Kuala Lumpur,
29 November 2008 – 1 Muharram 1430 H
