Singapore Releases Five Members Of Jemaah Islamiah Terrorist Network

By Zakaria Abdul Wahab

SINGAPORE, Sept 15 (Bernama) — Five Singaporean members of the Jemaah Islamiah (JI) terrorist network, who were detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA), have been released on restriction orders by the Singapore Government.

In a statement Monday, the Home Affairs Ministry said brothers Muhamad Ismail Anuwarul, Abdul Rashid and Abdul Nassir were released last March 28.

The others, Ab Wahab Ahmad and Sanin Riffin, were released Sunday.

The ministry said the siblings were members of the Malaysian JI network and were previously detained in Malaysia.

The three men were arrested upon their deportation to Singapore and detained under Singapores ISA in March 2006.

Ab Wahab and Sanin were detained in September 2002.

The ministry said the five men had been cooperative in investigations and shown progress in rehabilitation, including religious counselling.

They were assessed to no longer pose a security threat that required detention, it added.
