High Court judicial commissioner Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof - at the centre of a potentially sizzling case between Pakatan Rakyat Menteri Besar for Perak Nizar Jamaluddin and his successor BN Menteri Besar Zambry Kadir - has decided to recuse himself.
Ariff made the decision following an objection from the Attorney-General. Zambry’s counsel Ahmad Kamal Mohd Shahid, the Perak legal advisor, had also objected to Ariff handling the case.
Last week, Ariff disclosed that he had previously acted as an advisor for PAS and KeADILan. But he also said he had represented Barisan Nasional in a Sarawak election petition case before.
Despite the early setback, Nizar - who is challenging Zambry’s appointment as Menteri Besar - is unfazed by the decision
“The legal battle will go on and we are confident of winning,” Nizar said, adding that he had expected it.
