It is an abuse of the legal process, says Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the court order linking him and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) with a purported gathering Monday was tantamount to “slander and an abuse of the legal process.”

The PKR de facto leader stressed the PR never made any decision to hold a gathering at the Parliament or its grounds on Monday.

He said the only decision the PR MPs made was to put forward a no confidence motion under the Standing Orders 18(1) against the government.

He said he regretted that the police had "deliberately linked" his name and that of PR in a magistrate's court order obtained ex-parte Sunday by the Sentul district police.
"The order was not even handed to me but only pasted outside my house," he said in a statement.

Anwar said he had instructed his lawyers to initiate legal proceedings to set aside the court order.

The court order bars Anwar and his supporters from holding any gathering within a 5km radius from Parliament today. The Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat would decide Monday on whether to allow the motion of no confidence to be discussed in Parliament.

On a different matter, Anwar would be at the Travers police station at 2pm to give his statement over allegations that he had sodomised 23-year-old Saiful Bukhari Azlan.
Saiful, who was his former aide made the allegation early this month and lodged a police report against the former deputy Prime Minister who was 10 years ago also accused of a similar offence.

Anwar and his supporters held special prayers at his house Sunday night.
